Laurent Boulanger was Australian Correspondent for Writers’ News, UK’s largest circulating magazine for writers for 12 years, where he advised readers on potential publishing markets. He has also published over thirty freelance articles in a variety of magazines both in Australia and the USA. As an author, Laurent has written Murder on 45th Street, a novella for ESL students with accompanying CDs, published in 2002 by BELT Books, a division of Pascal Publishing, to a worldwide market. His literary novel The Girl From France was published in 2006 by independent small press outfit The Rock View Press, and the e-book version won the 2014 Global Ebook Awards for Best Multicultural Fiction and the 2014 Paris Book Festival Award for Best Ebook (all categories, five languages).
His literary novel The Novelist won the Grand Prize (all genres and categories) and the Best General Fiction Award at the 2016 Pacific Rim Book Festival. The Film adaptation was Semi-Finalist at the Los Angeles CineFest and made Official Selection at The Innovative Film Festival, Tempa, Florida, USA; The Phoenix Film Festival, Melbourne, Australia; and the 2017 Colortape International Film, Brisbane. It has also been selected for Best Director and Best Feature Film at the Colortape International Film Festival and Best Australian Film at the Phoenix Film Festival.
His crime novel Better Dead Than Never was a Crime Writers Association of Australia (CWAA) 2007 Best First Crime Novel finalist, and the e-book version won the 2014 eLit Bronze Award for Best Multicultural Fiction. First Kill won an Tom Howard Honourable Mention for Best Crime Fiction. Second Cut won the 2015 Hollywood Book Festival Best Sequel Award, and The Kristina Melina Omnibus: First Kill, Second Cut, Third Victim won a 2015 Honorable Mention for Best Compilations/Anthologies.
Laurent has been a principal tutor at Swinburne University's Postgraduate Online Writing Program since 2004. Laurent has an Associate Diploma of Arts in Professional Writing & Editing (Holmesglen Institute of TAFE), a B.A. in Writing (Deakin University), a M.A. in Writing (Swinburne University), a Ph.D. in Writing (Swinburne University), a Graduate Certificate in Education & Training (Victoria University), a Diploma in Distance Tutoring (The Learning Institute, UK), a Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (Workforce Plus Inc.), and a Professional Certificate in Executive Screen Production (Victoria Law School).
Laurent is the writer-director and co-producer (with Intermedia Arts Pty Ltd) of the feature film Six Lovers. His French-language feature film, La Souffrance, about a young woman's struggle to survive after breaking-up with her partner, is currently in post-production. He is also a working actor (Select Actors Management) and has acted against Judy Davis in the feature film 'The Eye of the Storm' in 2010 and against Frank Woodley in the ABC’s comedy ‘Woodley’ in 2011. He has done ADR in 'The Great Gatsby' in 2013 and has appeared in dozens of short films, television shows, training videos and commercials.
