Nandita Godbole

The eternal quest for a curry recipe ends here.

Nandita Godbole is a cookbook and fiction author, with several titles to her name - writing books that improve a diners' perceptions about Indian food, and show how effortless and healthy it can be. None of her books include the recipe for a 'curry' - but you will find several recipes for hearty stews, kormas and sauce-laden dishes that restaurants classify as 'curry'.

Nandita's work has appeared in Washington Post, Food Network, Eater, Healthline, and others. She has appeared on NBC Asian America (2018) to speak about the importance of comfort foods particularly for the immigrant community. She was interviewed in 2016 on NBC Asian America, to share her experiences writing a cookbook that was based on her own family's complex religious and cultural roots.

Nandita's work often attracts media attention and she has been interviewed by Food Network, NBC-Asian America, Good Day Atlanta (Fox), WREK-91.5 (Atlanta), India Abroad Magazine, Hindustan Times, Little India Magazine, Atlanta Business Chronicle, Publishers' Weekly, and many others.

Nandita comes from at least three generations of food professionals. She launched Curry Cravings™ in 2005 to showcase the dynamic Indian culture and cuisine and channel an exploration of cultural identity. Her passion evolved into cooking classes and a long-running series of supper club dinners in Atlanta and Los Angeles. They helped shape her space to be a globally known cookbook author.

Nandita is a passionate teacher and engaging storyteller, traits that make her work popular across literary and global borders. Her instructional cookbooks ‘A Dozen Ways to Celebrate’, ‘Crack the Code’ and the upcoming 'Roti: Easy Indian Bread and Sides', second edition, have reached more than 30 countries. Her work offers technical know-how within a tangible tapestry of culinary knowledge & oral histories to delight readers - a combination of illustrative style, eye-catching photography & poignant narration.

Nandita encourages diners and readers go beyond being armchair consumers to becoming dinner-table connoisseurs. In her books and her classes, she presents easy preparations that transform seasonal produce into flavorful dishes that complement healthy lifestyles. Her teaching and writing style is inspiring as she instills realistic confidence, effortlessly revealing how Indian cuisine can be a flavorful, decadent and healthier choice.

Through both her written and culinary endeavors Nandita remains an enthusiastic advocate for the Indian culture, bridging the gaps between its perception and ‘consumption.’ A keen observer, she inquires about cultural overlays on our personal and social environments. She blogs regularly, sharing her observations and criticism of conventional ideologies, and orchestrates dining events setting the stage for such dialogues. She asks how and where ‘ethnic’ and personal ideologies collide with said convention, and all of her writing reflects her ability to passionately engage her audience, telling a story while honoring the reader as well. Nandita crafts holistic food and conversation for both mind and body. She had originally started writing her books as a written legacy for her daughter, but her recipes and stories are devoured by chefs, diners, and readers alike.

Her first fiction, ‘Not For You: Family Narratives of Denial & Comfort Foods’, is about food and family, based on complex personal histories drawn from her own culinary background, about how family events curate culinary heritage.

As a small business, Nandita insists on working with other local small businesses to produce any print books. Her print books are printed in the USA and shipped using the federal service, US Post. Read more about her work and philosophy on her site: Curry Cravings Kitchen.
