Sue Myles

My life with dogs is a passionate expression of how easily beloved family pets can be trained with kind, intelligent and effective teaching. After thirty six years helping people housebreak and train the dogs they cherish I've got more tips, techniques and tricks than a Dalmatian has spots.

Writing is my other deep creative joy. I've been writing since I was in third grade when my academic essay, Why I Love My Dog, Lassie, earned my teacher's attention. Seems my use of vivid language started there and never stopped.

I write to help people with real pets and real problems. I include stories to illustrate examples; some stories are from my daily life as a dog trainer/behaviorist. You'll meet my own dogs in my book, too. My pets Bobby, Gladys, Katy and Billie Jean are included to teach kind but confused owners to help their pets.

I use humor, lots of humor, in my book and a friendly 'let me help you' style. My writing is helpful, funny and most of all, directed toward loving owners. I don't write to impress other dog trainers and I don't use high falutin phrases such as "the objective is to embed a bridge signal with which to enhance the reinforcing power of the secondary stimulus." I write with a plain, helpful and gentle style that even your non dog owning friends will enjoy, too.

When I'm not teaching dogs to sing and dance or writing books I'm reading. History, biographies and Paul Gallico stories are my favorites. I have read and underlined every biography of Mary Todd Lincoln written. I am an ex oboe player and thus love classical music. My season tickets to the Los Angeles Opera enable me to enjoy listening to large women in beautiful gowns sing to tenors half their size.
