'The Scrivener's Corbie' tells the story of the life of Harry Staens, scrivener – from teenage fumblings in a Bordeaux forest to a witch’s pyre in Edinburgh by way of meetings with kings and queens, duel and plague, reform and faeries – all from the unique perspective of Seneca, the crow.

'The Salt Farmer' (2018) is set in 1536 against the backdrop of Henry VIII's reformation and the English counter-reformation known as 'The Pilgrimage of Grace'. It follows the paths of Jaap van der Staen - the eponymous salt farmer, the charismatic novice, Barbara, and Harry, a street child, who embark on a pilgrimage through a world of destruction, burnings, and shipwrecks.

Francis lives in Fife.
