S. Pitt

Among other occupations S. Pitt has worked as groom, farmhand and geologist but she has always written stories, mostly set in the past. As a teenager she was a winner in the Barclays Bank Essay Competition for a short story entitled 'The Cormorant', and the 'Wings Over the Cloud Award' for 'The First Flight of Hermogenes Smith'. She has lived on the edge of the South West Wilderness in Tasmania and remote parts of the United Kingdom, places whose nature and history have inspired much of her work. A recurrent theme in all her writing is the interplay of historical events, landscape and mythology. Her story 'Ice Bear' was shortlisted for the HNS Oxford 16 Short Story Award and is included in the HNS Short Story Anthology 2017 'Distant Echoes'. Her favourite authors include Mary Renault, J.R. R. Tolkien, Raymond Chandler and John Steinbeck
