Surendra Singh was born in a village in Uttar Pradesh, India, in 1962. He studied up to Class VI in a village School and then went to UP Sainik School, Lucknow from where he passed his ISC (Grade 12). Further, he did his military training from NDA and IMA before joining the Army as an officer in 1983. During a patrolling assignment in 1998 in Mizoram, one day he passed by a haunting lake, nestled in the midst of beautiful hills. When asked by him why there was no human settlement around that water body, a Gorakha soldier narrated him the folktale of the lake. The story inspired him so much that he picked up writing, which became his passion. Within a decade he penned down more than sixty stories and four novels. He lives in Dehradun, India.
