MD Brigitte "Bee" Buchmann Nahmias

Brigitte “Bee” Buchmann Nahmias, MD, began writing this memoir about her childhood in Germany for her family in the United States, but soon many early reviewers also expressed great interest in the historical aspects.

In 1948, three years after the war ended, she moved with her family to the Washington, DC, area. She was fifteen. Brigitte and her brother, Ulrich, both became doctors. Brigitte attended Bethesda Chevy-Chase High School, won a scholarship to George Washington University in DC, and then attended GW School of Medicine. Here she met and married her classmate, Andre Nahmias, a Sephardic Jewish immigrant from Alexandria, Egypt. The couple moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and had three children, Cindy, David, and Eddy. Dr. Nahmias was director of a regional emphysema clinic, affiliated with St. Joseph’s Infirmary; assistant clinical professor of medicine and director of Emory University Medical Television; clinician at Fulton County Health Department; and president of her own company, Medical Video Productions. She also was a dedicated soccer mom, PTA president, and active in the UUCA (Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta).

She later married a classical musician, Dr. Donald Norton.

Since retirement, Dr. Nahmias enjoys playing piano and recorders and has played with many groups. She also likes reading, painting, and gardening, and supports many environmental causes. But most of all, she loves her eight grandchildren and many get-togethers with her friends.
