RUBEN TORRES

Ruben Torres is a San Diego–based author, creative director, and community builder known for bridging faith, culture, and real-life leadership. Ruben’s journey spans the worlds of music, film, street culture, and grassroots community impact.

Before writing books, Ruben spent decades behind the scenes in the entertainment industry. He worked in artist development and A&R, helping shape the careers of urban and Christian hip-hop artists, including early work with P.O.D., Sons of Intellect, and KJ-52. Ruben’s journey has taken him from the music industry and street culture into community leadership, mentorship, and faith-based outreach. Before stepping into full-time community work, he worked in entertainment and media alongside artists and public figures such as P.O.D., Rey Mysterio, Papa Roach, DJ Quik, WC, Frankie J, and many others.

Ruben is the founder of the Love Thy Neighbor Movement, a San Diego-based nonprofit launched in 2010. Through LTN, he has led large-scale toy drives, bike giveaways, food distributions, street-vendor relief efforts, prison and juvenile-hall creative arts programs and outreaches, as well as peace-building events that bring together law enforcement, community leaders, and families. His work has impacted tens of thousands of people across San Diego and Baja California, creating opportunities for overlooked youth and struggling communities.

In addition to his nonprofit work, Ruben has produced and directed music videos, worked on concert films, appeared in feature films, hosted long-running interview platforms including Connected with Ruben Torres, and produced community art events drawing thousands. Ruben has been recognized by the County and City of San Diego with a special day proclaimed in his name.

As an author, Ruben writes for UNLIKELY LEADERS who feel overlooked, unqualified, or counted out. His work focuses on leadership, faith, redemption, and purpose, drawn from lived experience rather than theory. Whether writing or serving his community, His book, The Moses Factor: Life and Leadership Lessons for Unlikely Leaders, was written for people who feel overlooked, unqualified, doubted, or counted out. Blending biblical leadership, street-level wisdom, personal stories, and practical faith, Ruben challenges readers to discover purpose, embrace calling, and lead through adversity.

Ruben currently serves as Creative Director at the Legacy International Center in San Diego and continues to speak at conferences, schools, churches, juvenile facilities, men’s events, and leadership gatherings.

He lives in San Diego with his wife Rosalinda and 3 children and continues to work at the intersection of creativity, faith, and impact.
