Dr Rory Brown holds a PhD in Metaphysics and has spent over two decades working at the intersection of coaching, recovery, learning and development, facilitation, and human transformation. He is the creator of the Critical Circles Coaching Framework and its central methodology, the HERO Cycle (Hold, Encounter through Naming, Reflect, Orient), a living model of accompaniment drawn from his years of practice in circles of recovery, learning, and change.
His work spans performance consulting, facilitation design, leadership development, and the integration of Jungian psychology, neuroscience, and spiritual practice into applied coaching. He is the author of a comprehensive coaching text exploring archetypes, shadow work, trauma-informed practice, and the five domains of recovery capital, and the architect of the SDEPF (Spiral Disruptive Experiencial Process Facilitation), which brings together contemplative wisdom and evidence-based practice for practitioners working in complex human systems.
His published work, The Book of Thresholds: A Year of Grace Accompanying the Journey of Healing, draws on Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey, Recovery Capital theory, and the HERO Cycle to offer 366 daily reflections for people navigating recovery. It is grounded in a simple conviction: people do not need fixing, only the right conditions in which to rebuild.
Dr Brown is originally from South Africa and lives in Valencia, Spain.
