Many moons have passed since I was that knock-kneed teenage girl in Southern Oklahoma, whom I named Gina Marie in this book.

I’m the wife of a wheat farmer and cattle rancher in Northwest Oklahoma and a mom to an amazing grown son, beautiful grand-daughter, and new great-granddaughter. I share two bonus sons and grandchildren with my husband.

All the while, writing and editing my memoir or book of memories, as I call it, that I’ve been writing for over twenty years and living with for over fifty years.

Growing up extremely poor and having to rely on my instincts like an alley cat and trusted friends to survive, has prepared me throughout my life to journey outside my comfort and skill level many times. I’ve traveled the US and abroad several times with family and friends and alone. At no time, growing up in Southern Oklahoma in the ’50s and ’60s, would I or could I have dreamed of taking that kind of an adventure. My worldview was a map tacked to two-by-fours on our bedroom wall, where no sheetrock existed. The light was a single bulb hanging from the ceiling.

The love, protection, and attention I focused and fixated on my little sister and two little brothers in my youth gave me the confidence to take on the world.
