November 1884 geboren, bezog die Universitäten Straßburg und München und promovierte 1908 an der erstgenannten. Er verbrachte seine Assistentenzeit am Straßburger pathologischen Institut (Chiari), an der Deutschen Heilstätte Davos, in Straßburg an der Kinderklinik (Korts), an der Frankfurter inneren Klinik (Schwenkenbecher) und an der Poliklinik und Medizinischen Klinik in Straßburg (E. Meyer). Er wurde hier sowie später an den Medizinischen Kliniken in Frankfurt a. M. (Schwenkenbecher) und in München (E. von Romberg) Oberarzt. 1915 in Straßburg für innere Medizin habilitiert, folgte er 1920 einem Rufe als a. o. Professor nach München und 1926 als o. Professor und Direktor der Medizinischen Klinik nach Jena. Veil befaßte sich insb. mit Stoffwechsel-, Herz- und Nierenkrankheiten und Diabetes insipidus.
