Dr Sooraj Kumar Maurya

Sooraj Kumar Maurya teaches philosophy at Zakir Husain Delhi College (Evening), University of Delhi. He took his doctorate at the University of Allahabad, with research on the ethics of affirmative action, and has taught undergraduate and postgraduate students since then.

His academic work covers ethics, political philosophy, philosophy of law and the Indian philosophical traditions. He has published more than thirty research papers and has written for academic presses including Springer, Routledge and Palgrave Macmillan.

His writing for general readers grows out of the classroom. Students kept asking for clear explanations of terms that textbooks assume they already know, and for ways of using philosophical ideas outside the examination hall. Those two questions shape the books he writes: reference works that explain philosophical vocabulary plainly, and practical guides that bring classical Indian ideas into everyday reflection.
