Please forgive me, as the only French I know is "Palez-vous anglais?"
so this will be in English...but then my book is in English, so I assume you are more well-versed than I! Some day I hope to visit Paris [sigh]; I have a friend whose mother is French, so I may bring her along if I do get the privilege of visiting your beautiful country...
About me:
I am a native Texan, have lived in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex all my life (so far). I was born in the late fifties, was an adolescent in the sixties, a teenager and young adult in the seventies, a wife and mother in the eighties, and a divorcee/single parent in the nineties.
I am presently looking forward to experiencing the empty nest syndrome (my friends who are already there tell me it’s great!). For the past thirty-three years I have been working as a RN in the hospital and various public health settings; the last seventeen as a school nurse.
I was a cradle-roll baby. Translation: my parents took me to church just as soon after birth as was considered safe to be out in public (a week?). I was blessed to grow up in a Christian home. In my family, come Sunday morning you were either in church, on a mission trip, or on your death bed. Now having said that, I will say I loved being in church; it was like having a second family. And far from boring! I like to think of a church [and that's the people, not the building] as a gathering of imperfect people willing to admit they need God's help to keep from killing each other.
I (oops—that’s the fourth paragraph I’ve started with the word “I”—let’s try this again…)
My (I guess that’s better than “I”) daughters are Lauren and Erin; I have a brother and sister, numerous nieces, nephews, a couple of great-nephews, one great-niece but no grandchildren (at this writing). I have a bird, a Cockatiel named Jasper; two dogs: Einstein, a Shih Tzu; and Starbuck, a miniature Dachshund. Alexis, a cat I inherited from my oldest daughter [Long story; I’ll tell you about it someday…] co-habits my home with me, gracing me with her regal self. I love almost all animals [I’m not fond of rodents] but this cat scares me, she is so smart! (I suspect she is actually an alien from another galaxy sent to observe us.) She is the one live/real character that appears in my book, under the alias “Tiger Lilly”; you would not believe the contract she exacted out of me for the privilege of using her as a minor character [I had to promise Alexis a larger role in my next book for her to finally agree].
Reading has been a part of my life as far back as I can remember. I did get bogged down in first grade when we were forced to read books like “Dick and Jane” and “Tip and Mitten” [See the ball, Mitten. Run, Tip, run. Come here, Dick. Come here, Jane. I want to kill you…] then my mother discovered Dr. Seuss and I was saved from death by boredom!
I love all kinds of genre when it comes to books, but my favorite book to curl up with on a cold, winter’s night [or anytime, for that matter] is a murder mystery. Not that I’m blood thirsty, I just love the suspense and finding out who done it and why.
Favorite authors: Agatha Christie [go figure!], Dorothy Sayers, C.S. Lewis, Tolkien, Diane Mott Davidson, Lillian Braun, Erma Bombeck [I loved that lady!], Iain Pears [I’m still waiting for the sequel to “The Immaculate Deception”—did Flavia have a girl or boy??], Patrick McManus, Elizabeth Peters, J.K. Rowling, Harper Lee, the Bronte sisters [I used to pretend I was Jane Eyre, but never Cathy!]; this is merely the tip of the iceberg.
Favorite books…well…let’s just say I can’t decide!
Enough for now; must get back to book number two…
