The seeds for “Traveling with the Fates” originated on a vacation to Greece with my three adult children. Five days before the trip I learned that I was terminally ill, reminding me how strong a role dumb luck plays in our lives.

Any reading of history makes this clear, and there was no better place to let it resonate intuitively than among the ruins of ancient Greece.

I have lived in Minnesota for several years. Earlier in life, I received a BA in French Literature from Yale, worked as a merchant seaman, street musician and business guy, slept under bridges and in luxury hotels, and found that people everywhere are beautifully the same and, even more beautifully, not the same.

I hope this book gives you a smile.
