James Alexander Johns

James A Johns writes books in the hope that they will relieve him of the tiresome necessity of pretending that other people make sense. His first effort, Modern Delusions: How We Keep Choosing Catastrophe, achieved bestseller status thanks chiefly to the author's own vigorous purchasing habits. His second, The Self-Help Book That Will Make You Worse, had similar modest success in confirming what readers already suspected. He is presently engaged in writing a third volume, Insufferable Pricks: A Guide to Not Murdering Everyone Who Annoys You, and has so far succeeded in not finishing it - an accomplishment he considers among his more consistent.

He shares his home with a honey badger named Cuddles, an animal notable for its complete lack of interest in cuddling and its firm conviction that its owner could stand to be a bit more organised. Mr. Johns has discovered that sarcasm is a serviceable tool for getting through the day and is making a determined effort not to become the exact sort of insufferable person he has been describing in print. The honey badger, for its part, continues to regard this effort with open scepticism.
