A propos de cet article

True 1st Edition Ordnance Survey of Scotland. Large Folded Sectional Map (approx. 27" x 21.4" / 68cm x 54cm). Scaled perfectly at one inch to a statute mile. Engraved sharply at the Ordnance Survey Office, Southampton, under the direction of Captain A. Beamish, R.E., featuring the foundational topological outlines of B.L. Dunn, and published under Director-General Major General A.C. Cooke, C.B., R.E., explicitly dated 1882. Section-dissected and mounted upon the original heavy linen backing cloth, folding cleanly as called for inside the publisher's original black textured cloth covers featuring elegant matching marble pastedowns. Presenting in Very Good Plus condition overall. The black cloth boards are secure but with a lage fade area( see images) featuring a neat, contemporary institutional ownership stamp for the historic Keswick Library to the covers without defacing the cartography. Internally, the linen-backed map sheet is in Very good condition; sharp un-rubbed engraving plates, and bright borders, completely free from the split junctions, thumb-soiling, or water-staining that standardly degrades 19th-century field cartography. Geographical & Historical Significance: A foundational monument of Scottish cartography, mapping out the wild, remote wilderness of the Applecross Peninsula in Wester Ross, the Inner Sound, and the eastern coastlines of Northern Skye and Raasay. Executed at the height of the Royal Engineers' national survey, the plate captures every mountain peak, coastal inlet, and the steep mountain switchbacks of the historic Bealach na Bà pass with flawless, mid-Victorian precision.…

Description de la boutique

I have collected books most of my life. My collection has reduced now to about 4,000 items. I list a few more as time goes by! It is difficult sometimes to allow old friends to move on. Of course, they can find fresh enthusiasm from their new owners. No matter how many items you handle, there's always excitement and interest. It is vital however that my items are described accurately and I would hope to offer good value. If you see something that you feel is 'too high' for your pocket, don't hesitate to make me an offer. I try to keep the postage costs down, and within the United Kingdom this will be free. Posting abroad will be competitive, and often I will not ask for additional amounts if this is viable. But weight of items is the deciding factor. I will add images to my descriptions, and I hope that the combination will help you to decide. Regardless, always double check or take time to contact me for further information, or merely just to clarify a point. Ask for more images. If I can reduce anything I will do so. If you purchase more than one item, then offering a decent discount is likely. If items are not as described or you have a valid problem with any item, then I am happy to make a full or partial refund. This will be in line with all Statutory guidelines e.g returning the book in the condition it was delivered, and do let me know as quickly as possible. If damage has occurred then try to provide images. Ring me on 01352-810931…
