London: Leigh, c.1830. Original colour. 140 x 200mm. Laid on perforated card as issued. Original print, 'Equuleus' was the brother of Pegasus, the winged horse. One of a set of thirty-two cards designed by 'a young Lady,' to make the study of astronomy 'familiar and amusing'. It shows the constellations as visible in the night skies of Britain, with easily identifiable classical embodiments. The card is pricked through with holes of different sizes so that the amateur astronomer can hold it up to a light and get an immediate impression of the apparent magnitude of each star. Engraved by Sidney Hall. N° de réf. du vendeur 12203
