Orion, London, 2022. Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. Stated "First published in Great Britain in 2022 by Orion Fiction", first printing with a full number line starting with "1". 9-1/2" tall, 387 numbered pages followed by unnumbered pages of "Acknowledgements" and "About the Author"; one-piece lightly textured white binding, electric purple lettering on spine; front board is plain; plain pale blue end pages; fore edge is trimmed and all 3 edges are a sort of aqua blue with printing as from a map. The book is brand new and is nearly pristine: it is square, spotlessly clean, free of edge dings with the lower front corner having a small bump; head and heel of spine undamaged; hinges are very tight and not damaged in any fashion. The interior is completely free of writing (except for author's signature and year), stray marks, stains of any sort and page damage of any type. Paper is very flexible. No distortion of the book from reading or improper shelving; pages are tight and clean with no marks. Jacket is also brand new and is pristine: it is perfectly clean; no tears, folds or fading; no bumps on corners or edges; there is no publisher's price on the jacket or in the book. Condition of book and jacket consistent with being brand new and not read. No other discernible or objectionable faults on book or jacket such as marks or writing within, stains, tears, chips, or other damage that would diminish its appearance. No remainder mark, no previous owner markings or inscriptions, not price clipped, not a book club edition, not a former library book. Signed very legibly by the author in thick black marker near the bottom of a publisher's limitation page which immediately follows the FFEP; at the top of that page, it is listed as "No. 1239 . . . of 1500 numbered copies of the first edition . . . ". …

USA TODAY AND LA TIMES BESTSELLER
Finalist for the LA Times Book Prize!
“The Cartographers is one of those brilliant books you have to read twice.” — Washington Post
“There are echoes of Borges and Bradbury, Pynchon and Finian’s Rainbow, but Ms. Shepherd’s exhilarating and enjoyable work casts a magical glow all its own.” — Wall Street Journal
From the critically acclaimed author of The Book of M, a highly imaginative thriller about a young woman who discovers that a strange map in her deceased father’s belongings holds an incredible, deadly secret—one that will lead her on an extraordinary adventure and to the truth about her family’s dark history.
What is the purpose of a map?
Nell Young’s whole life and greatest passion is cartography. Her father, Dr. Daniel Young, is a legend in the field and Nell’s personal hero. But she hasn’t seen or spoken to him ever since he cruelly fired her and destroyed her reputation after an argument over an old, cheap gas station highway map.
But when Dr. Young is found dead in his office at the New York Public Library, with the very same seemingly worthless map hidden in his desk, Nell can’t resist investigating. To her surprise, she soon discovers that the map is incredibly valuable and exceedingly rare. In fact, she may now have the only copy left in existence...because a mysterious collector has been hunting down and destroying every last one—along with anyone who gets in the way.
But why?
To answer that question, Nell embarks on a dangerous journey to reveal a dark family secret and discovers the true power that lies in maps...
Perfect for fans of Joe Hill and V. E. Schwab, The Cartographers is an ode to art and science, history and magic—a spectacularly imaginative, modern story about an ancient craft and places still undiscovered.
And don't miss The Book of M!
