The book is tight, clean and unmarked other than a small stain to the end paper where the inscription reads: "To Robby & Teddy, My best wishes to 'two' future stars!! Your Fan, Steve Garvey." Who are Robby and Teddy, and did they make it to baseball stardom? The possibilities raised by the inscription add color and perhaps even value to this already collectible copy. The popular California baseball star tells about his life, his baseball teams, his views on players and drugs, his highly publicized marriage and divorce, and his aspirations for political office. As the star first baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres from 1969 to 1987, Garvey was the National League's MVP in 1974. He also twice won MVP honors in the National League Championship Series (1978 and 1984) and in two All-Star Games (1974 and 1978), as well as four straight Gold Glove Awards from 1974 to 1977.
