First Edition, First Printing — Signed & Inscribed by the Author. Signature & Association Note: Warmly inscribed and signed in ink on the front free endpaper by the author (an alumna and professor in the School of Education at UNCG) to one of her students: "For Vickie, who has brought pride and pleasure to me as a student and as a friend. Elisabeth Bowles" About the Work: Published to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the university's founding, this foundational North Carolina history chronicles the institution from its 1891 chartering as the State Normal and Industrial School, through its era as the North Carolina College for Women ("The Woman's College" / WC), up to its inclusion in the Consolidated University system in 1932. Richly illustrated with historical campus and faculty photographs, including portraits of Charles Duncan McIver, Julius I. Foust, and Walter Clinton Jackson. Condition Report (Graded Strictly Under Trade Standards: Very Good / Very Good-): - Book (Very Good): Original terracotta cloth boards are clean and sharp; binding is square, tight, and sturdy. Interior pages and photographic plates are crisp, bright, and unmarked save for the author's inscription on the front free endpaper. Graded strictly Very Good due to moderate foxing along the top edge of the text block and light vertical offset toning on the endpapers from the jacket flaps. - Dust Jacket (Very Good-): Original pictorial dust jacket featuring the iconic Julius I. Foust Building on the front panel . Front panel color is bright and clean with minimal corner wear. Spine panel is sun-faded from terracotta to cream, causing the white reverse-printed title text ("A Good Beginning") to fade into the background while the black-printed author and publisher lettering remain sharp. Front flap is price-clipped at the top corner, and the rear flap shows moderate foxing. Packaging & Shipping: Your item will be securely packaged and shipped promptly with tracking.…

Description de la boutique

Based in Gibsonville, North Carolina, we're an independent bookseller offering carefully curated used, rare and collectible books. Our shelves lean toward North Carolina history, Civil War, Southern Americana, Theology and Literary First Editions, but good books of every kind find their way here. We believe every old book carries two stories: the one printed on its pages and the one written by its journey through time. Former owners' inscriptions, bookplates, and marginal notes are part of that history, and we note them in our descriptions. Every book is examined by hand and described honestly, with edition details and condition noted so you know exactly what you're getting. Each one is packed with care for its trip to your shelf. Rooted in Carolina. Open to the world. Collectors, researchers, and readers alike are welcome here. Thanks for stopping by!…
