This is the second edition, with the second part dated 1644. The engraved title, which is the same as in the first edition, is signed ?C.C.D.? (=Duysend). The text was earlier published in the third part of ?Vetus Graecia? 1626. The first part deals with Athen and Sparta, ?De republica Atheniensium?, ?De republica Laconum?, and the second with Carthago, Crete, Argos, Thebes, Corinth, Corcyra, Syracuse, Samos, Chios, Rhodes, Epirus, Massilia, etc. Ubbo Emmius (1547-1625) was a German professor in Greek and History at Groningen.
