Item description from seller

4" wide x 7" high.  Eight unnumbered leaves.  Black and white collage image on frontispiece.  Light brown card wrappers with stapled binding.  Title and author in black capitals.  Location and date of publication also in black capitals on front cover. Privately published volume, limited edition of 200 copies of which this is #74, published for "private circulation by the poet's friends who also contributed with the translations of the original text." The original poem, "The Great Collage," appears first, followed by a German, Polish, Spanish, and two Hungarian translations by different translators.   The original version of the poem was written by John Robert Colombo (b. 1936), a Canadian poet, publisher, and editor from Kitchener, ON.  In addition to his own literary contributions, he published and edited works by many of Canada's most notable literary figures. "The Great Collage" is dedicated to Kurt Schwitters (1887-1948).  Schwitters was a German artist who lived in exile from 1937, as his art was deemed to be degenerate by the Nazi party.  He worked in a variety of styles, including Dadaism and surrealism, and was particularly well known for his collages, no doubt the inspiration behind the poem. The German translation was done by Walter Bauer (1877-1960), a German theologian and lexicographer who was a specialist in the history of Early Christianity and New Testament Greek. The Polish translation was done by Waclaw Iwaniuk (1912-2001), a poet, critic, and essayist who was born in Poland, but came to Toronto in 1948, where he continued to write in Polish. One Hungarian version was done by Robert Zend (1929-1985), a Hungarian poet, author, and multimedia artist who came to Canada following the Hungarian uprising of 1963, and served as a producer for the CBC documentary series Ideas. A Spanish translation was completed by the husband and wife artist team of Ludwig Zeller (1927-2019) and Susana Wald (b. Budapest, 1937).  Zeller was a Chilean poet and surrealist artist who moved to Toronto in 1971 with his wife.  Susana Wald is also a successful visual artist, having exhibited her work in venues around the world. The collection closes with another Hungarian version of the poem by Györdy Faludy (1910-2006), a poet, writer, and translator, collections of whose work Colombo had edited.  Faludy lived in Toronto for twenty years beginning in 1967. This copy is in very good condition. There is some slight fading to the covers, primarily around the edges and the spine.  Internally there are no blemishes.  This copy is signed by the author on the final page.
