Hardcover. Etat : Good. Etat de la jaquette : Good. First Edition. First Edition. Hardcover. This first printing of the autobiography of the Nobel Prize and Turing Award-winning pioneer of artificial intelligence comes signed and inscribed by Herbert Alexander Simon (19162001) himself. Simon's work influenced such diverse fields as economics, computer science, political science, and cognitive psychology. His theory of "bounded rationality" led to him being awarded the 1978 Nobel Prize in economics, "for his pioneering research into the decision-making process within economic organizations," and his work on constructing machines that think laid the conceptual foundations for the field of artificial intelligence. Co-founder at Carnegie Mellon of one of the world's first computer science departments and with work that crossed disciplinary lines in field after field to make him a pioneer in scientific domains as diverse as artificial intelligence, complex systems, decision-making, problem-solving, information processing, and organization theory, in his autobiography Models of My Life, "Simon's story encompasses an explosion in the information sciences, the transformation of psychology by the information-processing paradigm, and the use of computer simulation for modeling the behavior of highly complex systems," in addition to more intimate subjects such as his Milwaukee childhood, his marriage, his children, political and personal intrigue in academia, and much more. This particular copy (to whom Simon inscribed this first printing) is from the collection Anders Ericsson (1947-2020), "The Expert on Experts," Florida State University cognitive psychologist, and globally recognized researcher in the field of performance studies and the psychological nature of expertise whose work Malcolm Gladwell popularized in his bestselling book Outliers. Signed and inscribed by Herbert A. Simon to Anders Ericsson, "To Anders, with pleasant memories of our collaborations," and dated March 11, 1991. First Edition with full number line indicating first printing. 9 1/2" X 6 1/2". xxix, 415pp. Mild creasing and shelf wear to covers, corners, and edges of unclipped dust jacket.
