First Edition (SD) Who is 'S. T.? I've spent too much time trying to figure this out. Too much particularly since I haven't succeeded. She (first name very likely Ruth) inscribed and signed the book (Only Signed Copy). I know who she signed it to. His name was George V. Denny Junior. I purchased a number of books that he owned and were inscribed to him (by Dorothy Thompson, by Merryle Stanley Rukeyser, by The Earl of Lytton). I've included at the bottom of this description some details about Mr. Denny's life. A number of the authors no doubt were guests on his long-running radio broadcast 'America's Town Meeting of the Air'. Her last name seems to begin with the letters 'Craust' and then maybe ends with the letters 'er'. That compulsive need to finish something through to the end. I've provided a photograph of the inscribed front free end paper. Moving along, this 85-year-old book is in fantastic shape. And that's likely due to the presence of its dust jacket and to the presence of the dust jacket cover that Mr. Denny or one of his children or grandchildren protected the jacket with. As you can see in the photograph the dust jacket itself looks pretty darn good. Very tiny loss at the front bottom edge adjacent to the spine and perhaps a little bit at the bottom of the spine. The sun faded the red or pink color to tan at the spine and front margins. That's it. It's quite clean and doesn't have much in the way of edge wear. The flaps look very good as well. The book is NOT price-clipped. There are only a few of this title about and None have this dust jacket. The picture of the front cover of the book itself will give you a pretty clear idea of how it looks. It's gotta be the best looking 85-year-old front cover I've ever seen. The spine is right there with it. The back has a mysterious rectangular darkening. Something resting against it that I guess left a shadow. The bottom and top edges and the corners are in excellent shape. The book is very solidly bound, absolutely no issues. And this is an extremely clean book. No soiling, even on the end papers. I'm scrolling through the pages and thinking that Mr. Denny may not have done the same. Of course he was probably given a zillion books to read. The pages look perfect. I didn't see one instance of soiling. (The page edges, by the way, are also spotless). No one has written their name or anything else on any of the book's pages. Such pages don't have any markings, any attachments, any creases, any dogeared corners. And there are 322 of them. S.T. had a few things to say. I'll copy and paste now what I wrote about Mr. Denny in another listing: George V. Denny, Jr. created and moderated the popular radio broadcast called 'America's Town Meeting of the Air'. It ran from 1935 to 1956, mainly on the NBC Blue Network and its successor, ABC Radio. From the show's Wikipedia profile: 'One of radio's first talk shows, it began as a six-week experiment, and NBC itself didn't expect much from it. Broadcast live from New York City's Town Hall, America's Town Meeting of the Air debuted May 30, 1935, and only 18 of NBC's affiliates carried it. The topic for that first show was "Which Way America: Fascism, Communism, Socialism or Democracy? The moderator was George V. Denny, Jr., executive director of the League for Political Education, which produced the program. Denny moderated the program from 1935 to 1952 and had a major role in choosing weekly topics. Denny and the League wanted to create a program that would replicate the Town Meetings that were held in the early days of the United States'. 'On paper, America's Town Meeting looked like a typical panel discussion, with high-profile celebrity guests who were experts on a particular current issue. But while many shows had well-known experts, few had the kind of audience participation that this one did. They cheered or applauded when they liked what a speaker said, and they hissed or booed when they .boo, I've hit the letter limitation.

Many of the books I will be selling can accurately be described as ranging from somewhat rare to very rare. In some cases there won't be another copy for sale anywhere on the Internet. There doesn't seem much point, for you or me, in offering something that so many others are already offering. Subject matter will range very widely, creating the possibility for people with very different interests to find something that excites them. As regards pricing, my primary goal is to sell the book. Most often I would expect my book to be the least expensive option on the Internet taking into account an appropriate comparison(what is the condition, is the dust jacket present, is the book signed, is it a first printing, etc.). More important than selling the book I want to make sure that you know, as much as is possible, exactly what you are getting. To that end, you'll notice that my descriptions of condition tend to be lengthy, and that there will always be photographs to help you draw your own conclusions. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about a given book. As regards international shipping, the first class or standard rates I charge are based on a package weight between 2 and 3 pounds. If the book is on the thin side there is a possibility that I can securely pack it up under 2 pounds in weight. If so, the shipping price will drop by around $11.00 or $12.00 to $26.00-27.00. Canada, which is less expensive drops to $18.00. You can contact me before purchasing a book for an estimate on the shipping cost. If you buy the book and it weighs in below 2 pounds you'll get a Reduced Shipping message and amount with the invoice and you'll see the lowered final cost before you make your payment.
