1st Printing. Signed. 48 pages. Published in 2003. Exhibition Catalog, presented as an Artist Book. One of Lewis Koch's most profound and beautiful achievements. The first and only edition. Published in a small and limited first print run as a softcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. An austerely elegant production by Lewis Koch and University Communications: Oversize-volume format. Pictorial softcovers with titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Photographs by Lewis Koch. Essays by Joseph W. Elder and Vinay Dharwadker. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in the United States to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name held at the Memorial Library, University of Wisconsin Madison in 2003. Presents Lewis Koch's "Notes From The Stone-Paved Path: Meditations on North India". Photographs he took of Northern India in 1995-96 set side-by-side with pages photographed from books (in the holdings of the great university's Memorial Library) that pertain to the region. "This keepsake features a selection of Koch's photo-text diptychs along with a bibliography of the books in question, fifty in the full project. The books themselves speak to themes ranging from agricultural economics and autobiography to short stories, and reflect sensibilities from the mid-14th century to scholarship of the late-20th century" (Publisher's blurb). Koch is an artist's artist who makes photographic works, site-specific installations, and sculptural assemblage. He has exhibited extensively throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, in which countries his work is in the Permanent Collections of major museums. He isn't as well-known as Ed Ruscha (although he deserves to be). Like Ruscha, he makes his own Artist Books from scratch: From concept to image to design to full realization. An absolute "must-have" title for Lewis Koch collectors. This copy is very prominently, neatly, and beautifully signed, placed, and dated in black ink-pen on the title page by the artist/photographer: "Lewis Koch Madison, WI 2016". It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This title is a contemporary Artist Book classic. As far as we know, this is the only such signed, placed, and dated copy of the First Edition/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. A rare signed copy thus. One of the most brilliant artists of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER LEWIS KOCH AND ED RUSCHA TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 1893311406.…
