A propos de cet article

Tall, large format. Hardback, Ex-library (Bibliothek des Oestereichischen Ingenieurs und Architekten Vereines). Brown boards with lower front corner heavily creased, lower rear corner also a little creased. Faces rubbed and scuffed. Spine sunned. Corners bumped. Contents a little shaken. Library stamp to front page with biro listing number (matching number in gilt to head of spine). Inscribed by the author to the upper margin: 'with Crawford Barlow's comple[men]t, June 1890'. Pages generally bright with only minor marginal dust-marking. Last leaves with slight lower corner creasing. Described on the title page as a course of lectures, the 46 page text deals with different details regarding engineering design etc. This includes plans of the spans, along with a folding plate of different elevations at the end of the text. This is in turn, followed by 22 photo plates of the in situ construction. These plates are described as ink-photos and were printed by Spon. Crawford Barlow was the engineering son of William Henry Barlow, a major Victorian railway engineer. Barlow senior was called in after the collapse of the first Tay bridge for the inquiry and subsequently designed the new Tay bridge. Crawford was employed as one of the engineers working on the new design. Further details available on request. (Ub7).…
