This is an inscribed copy of "A Poetical Epistle to GEORGE WASHINGTON" by Charles Henry Wharton, from the original manuscript belonging to David Pulsifer. 1881 1st edition; David Pulsifer / A. Williams & Co.; Boston. This copy contains an inscription dated 1889 on the front end paper from David Pulsifer (noted historian, and owner of the original manuscript) to his cousin, Royal Pulsifer. Gilt lettering and decoration on the front cover. Decorative floral end papers. The book is a poetic tribute to Washington with 20 Appendices. From the preface to the Poem: "(The author's) sole view in penning this Epistle is to express in the best manner he is able, the warm feelings of a grateful Individual towards that best of men, to whom He & every American will in all likelyhood be principally indebted for the establishment of the Independence & commercial prosperity of their dear Country." In addition to the Washington poem, the book also includes 20 appendices - here are some examples: An Account of the Author; Address of the Provincial Congress of Massachusetts to General Washington, July 1, 1775; Letter from General Washington to the Council; Copy of Record of a Public Town Meeting in Boston, March 29, 1776; Address of the Governor and Council of Massachusetts to the President of the United States, Oct. 27, 1789; Statue of Washington in the State House; Mr. Bryant's Last Poem, written Feb. 22, 1878; Report of the Celebration of Washington's Birthday in Switzerland, Feb. 22, 1879.and more. Condition: The front cover has a very light 2" vertical stain line at the top edge, and a 3" vertical stain line at the left edge near the spine. Light wear to the top and bottom edges of the spine. Bright gilt lettering on the spine. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Nice interior - the text pages are clean with no issues found. There is a neatly written inscription in pen dated 1889 on the front end paper. Overall the book is in Very Good condition.…
