After graduating from Ridley College and the University of Toronto, Ken spent thirty years working for Imperial Oil Ltd, Exxon Corporation and Esso Inter-America as an executive with responsibilities in marketing, strategic planning, human resources, public and government relations. Subsequent to Imperial Oil, Ken worked for three years in the management consulting practice of Coopers & Lybrand Consulting, carried out an assignment living in Malaysia for CESO (Canadian Executive Services Organization), spent twelve years teaching business and public policy part time at Seneca College, and managed his own consulting practice in strategic planning and marketing. For three years Ken was the associate director of the Canadian Outward Bound Wilderness School. He was married for thirty-two years to the late Ann Pelton with whom he had two sons, Brendan and Dylan. He remarried in 2000 a lady from Peterborough, Penny Rush, who has three children. These five offspring have produced seven grandchildren. Ken has been involved in many organizations in a board or committee capacity. Over the past twelve years he has served on the Board of Governors of the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, serving as board chair for two of those years. He currently sits on the Board of the Canadian Canoe Museum. Ken and Penny live in Peterborough during the winter and cottage on Clear Lake in the Kawarthas during the summer, allowing opportunity to ski, hike, cycle, golf, canoe and kayak. They travel extensively, a passion that allows Ken to pursue his photography, both on land and underwater.
