AS PICTURED - FIVE IMAGES. FIRST EDITION, 1924. Number 101 of 250 of a Limited 'Edition de Luxe', signed by Clifford Bax and Dorothy Mullock to Limitation Page. Quarto (30 x 23 cms) with paper-covered boards, a striking design in gilt and red to front, gilt titles to spine. Some light general wear and darkening commensurate with over 100 years of age, but no significant faults. xiii + 46pp + unnumbered leaf with 'Books by Clifford Bax' recto; colophon of The Westminster Press verso. 10 full-page coloured lithographs by Dorothy Mullock hors texte. Maybe best known for her wonderful watercolour illustrations in " the Art of Nijinsky" from ten years earlier, Dorothy Mullock's work here is adapted to the theatrical subject-matter in a transitional style moving away from Art Nouveau and very much towards early Art Deco. These are printed on satin art paper, the body of the book being attractive laid paper which is, mercifully, foxing-free throughout. Darkeninng to eps only. Clifford Bax, brother of composer Arnold, was a prolific author of predominantly Theatre -related work. He had a strong interest in Theosophy, but also in cricket, his last published work being on W.G. Grace. These 'Studio Plays, Three Experiments in Dramatic Form' brought together here following earlier separate publication in more modest format. In grey-blue heavy paper dustwrapper with titles in red to front and spine; predominantly complete but with discoloured and scratched areas, particularly to rear, the spine lettering faded but legible.
