A propos de cet article

Textured red cloth with sharp white title box and lettering to front, slightly less bright to spine. Pasted on pictorial to front and multiple illustrations throughout by L.S. Geer done in a stereotypical racist way. Book written in dialect by a white author, Royal Dixon, born in Texas, albeit a social progressive and reformer. Features African-American characters, including "A true colored mammy of ante-bellum days." Inscribed to his friend, "To Miss Frances Kellor, Joshua of the Immigrants, from a loyal workman, Royal Dixon, July 1915" The book was purchased at the Dreier estate in Southwest Harbor, Maine. Mary Dreier and her partner Frances Kellor lived for many summers at the house and were very active social reformers as well and this book came from their library. Interesting Association Copy. Kellor was a very active social reformer, suffragette, immigrant and prisoner rights activist, and all-around committed American.
