FLAT SIGNED BY George Moore on the limitation page. Limited Edition: This No. 511 of 1250 copies issued for subscribers only. First Edition USA (1926) . Near Fine in a Very Good+ DJ; Slipcase Very Good: The Book shows just a hint of shelving wear near the lower corner tips; the top edge of the text block shows sparse foxing - as does the fore-edge - and a little dusting; else flawless; the binding is square and secure; the text is clean. Free of creased or dog-eared pages in the text. Free of any underlining, hi-lighting or marginalia or marks in the text. Free of ownership names, dates, addresses, notations, inscriptions, stamps, or labels. A handsome, nearly-new copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing minor, unobtrusive imperfections only. Bright and clean. Corners sharp. Very close to 'As New'. The DJ shows very faint toning to the outside edges of the panels and deeper toning and perhaps dust-dulling to the backstrip, which also shows some dampstaining (the titles are of course slightly muted but remain clearly legible) ; unclipped; mylar-protected. Attractive and intact, but showing cosmetic flaws. The Slipcase has red cloth at the top and bottom edges and patterned panels and backstrip and is in Very Good condition, showing some wear to and toning near the open edges and soiling to the red cloth. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. Large 8vo (9.35 x 6 x 1.25 inches). Original copperplate engraving by Stephen Gooden accompanies the dedication to Lady Cunard; facing vellum sheet intact. Language: English. Weight : 24.3 ounces. Ragged edges; most pages uncut. Blue-grey and cream quarter boards with pastedown plate at the upper backstrip. Blue-gray laid paper endpapers. Hardback with DJ in Slipcase. George Augustus Moore (1852 1933) was an Irish novelist, short-story writer, poet, art critic, memoirist and dramatist. Moore came from a Roman Catholic landed family who lived at Moore Hall in Carra, County Mayo. He originally wanted to be a painter, and studied art in Paris during the 1870s. There, he befriended many of the leading French artists and writers of the day. As a naturalistic writer, he was amongst the first English-language authors to absorb the lessons of the French realists, and was particularly influenced by the works of Émile Zola. His writings in turn had a profound influence on the early work of James Joyce, according to the literary critic and biographer Richard Ellmann, and, although Moore's work is sometimes seen as outside the mainstream of both Irish and British literature, he can in justice be regarded as the first great modern Irish novelist. Because of his willingness to tackle such issues as prostitution, extramarital sex, and lesbianism, Moore's novels were initially met with scandal, but this subsided as the public's taste for realist fiction grew. Moore's early realist novelsr include A Drama in Muslin (1886) , a satiric story of the marriage trade in Anglo-Irish society that hints at same-sex relationships among the unmarried daughters of the gentry, and Esther Waters (1894) , the story of an unmarried housemaid who becomes pregnant and is abandoned by her footman lover. Both of these books have remained almost constantly in print since their first publication. Moore's last novel, Aphrodite in Aulis, was published in 1930. Ulick and Soracha is an historical romance tracing Sir Ulick de Burgo's pursuit of the Princess Soracha in 14th-century Ireland. ; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 235 pages; Signed by Author.…
