Printed after "February 16, 1849" on the first page: "Read, and ordered to be printed; and that 500 additional copies be printed for the use of the Senate." Excerpt from the first page: "In compliance with a resolution of the Senate of the 8th instant, I have the honor to communicate herewith 'a copy of the despatch of the 5th of February, 1847, of Commodore Robert F. Stockton, commanding the forces of the United States in California,' together with copies of 'such other despatches of Commodore Stockton relating to the naval and mililtary operations in that country as have not heretofore been communicated to Congress and published.'".
