A propos de cet article

Second printing of the first UK paperback edition, which was first published in 1975. Originally published in hardback by Hart-Davis, MacGibbon in 1973. Illustrated throughout. ***Very good in colour-illustrated thin card wrappers. Covers quite clean, but with some marks and creasing commensurate with age and handling. Slight foxing to the spine. No reading creases to the spine. A couple of light pencil annotations which seem to be in shorthand, otherwise no inscriptions. Paper slightly tanned. Pages clean. No tears. Spine tight. 196mm x 127mm. 272 pages including an Index at the rear. ***Contents: Note to the Reader, 1. The Man and the Child, 2. The child and the Young Man, 3. Prelude, 4. Dawn of a New Light, 5. Atomic Agitation, 6. Better Times, 7. From Bern to Berlin, 8. From Principia to Principe, 9. From Principe to Princeton, 10. The Battle and the Bomb, 11. A Broader Canvas, 12. All Men Are Mortal, Index. ***'Dr Hoffmann captures the essence of Einstein's mind and his science, and shows the growth of ideas that led einstein to his most important theories. Einstein is revealed as an intellectual and political rebel, and as a true creator whose scientific curiosity was motivated by "a profound religious and artistic conviction that beauty was there, waiting to be discovered". Helen Dukas, Einstein's secretary for over thirty years, has provided valuable personal insights, and many documents are reproduced here for the first time.' (Quote from back wrapper blurb). ***A nice copy of this well produced paperback edition. Well illustrated and comprehensive. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. …
