Rare first edition of this Confederate imprint recording new laws and regulations pertaining to freed slaves. Octavo, bound in period quarter calf over boards, red morocco spine label with gilt titles. In very good condition. Codes amended at the Session of the General Assembly of Alabama, Held in the City of Montgomery in January 1861 include #24, section 1045: Freed Colored Mariners guilty of a misdemeanor for serving on any other vessel than the one to which he belongs, punishable by trial of 100 lashes, master of the vessel to pay all cost and fines; and #25, sections 1,2 &3 pertaining to the punishment of liquor sales to Free Negroes and slaves (Parish & Willingham, 2620). The Assembly was presided over by Governor Andrew B. Moore, House of Representatives Speaker A.B. Meek, and President of the Senate J.D. Rather.
