First edition 1846 hardcover in a fine leather, signed binding by Zaehnsdorf in full crimson crushed morocco, raised bands on spine, gilt stamped panels, gilt dentelles, t.e.g. Tips and spine ends are not rubbed or bumped, no names, tears or soil. "An impressive example of this work, the colored frontis, of which is probably the nicest copy we've had in near 30 yrs of bookselling. Wonderfully illustrated with full page hand colored plates, with the second title page described as: "The colored frontis, of which is probably one of the finest colored title pages ever designed" (Newton). Also notable are the detailed hunt scenes drawn around the first letter of the first word of each chapter.
