First edition, first printing. 569 pp. Bound in publisher's light blue-green cloth stamped in blind and lettered in gilt. Near Fine with discoloration to endpapers from printer's glue; apparently unread. In a Near Fine unclipped dust jacket with scratches to rear panel and light toning and soiling. An uncommonly nice copy of Stegner's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about a historian researching his pioneer grandparents. The author thanks J.M and her sister "for the loan of their ancestors" on the acknowledgements page. Stegner's very liberal use of the letters of Mary Hallock Foote (1847-1938), which had been supplied to him by her descendants, became a point of controversy. N° de réf. du vendeur 140949389
