Text in English. 224 The Finnish architect Pekka Helin has been a major figure on the scene of Scandinavian architecture for more than 30 years, creating his first firm in 1979. In his design approach, he draws in a specifically Scandinavian manner both on functionalism as well as the organic architecture of Alvar Aalto, Viljo Revell and Heikki Siren, but also Aarne Ervi. This book presents the firm's wide range of building expertise organized by typological task, with the focus on life in nature, urban public buildings, residential structures, and various types of workspace. Among the structures presented are Nokia's corporate headquarters, the Finnforest Modular Office, the tallest office building in Europe with a supporting structure made of timber, several highly innovative housing estates as well as master planning projects for the redesign of industrial wastelands in Helsinki and Oslo.

Synopsis

Der finnische Architekt Pekka Helin gründete bereits 1979 in Helsinki sein erstes Büro. In seiner Entwurfshaltung knüpft das Büro in einer spezifisch skandinavischen Ausdrucksform sowohl an den Funktionalismus, als auch an die organische Architektur eines Aalvar Alto, Viljo Revell, Heikki Sirèn oder auch eines Arne Erve an. Das Material Holz spielt in dieser sehr klaren Architektur eine vordergründige Rolle. Das Büro kreiert Bauten im Bereich Wohnen – häufig direkt am Wasser gelegen, wo die Einbindung in die Natur in den Sichtachsen eine große Rolle spielt – , aber auch Bürobauten, wie etwa den Nokia Hauptsitz oder auch das Finnish Modular Office, der höchste Bürobau aus Holz innerhalb Europas. Auch öffentliche Bauten, wie etwa die finnische Botschaft in Moskau oder der Konzertsaal und die Bibliothek in Espoo, gehören zu den Realisierungen des Büros, wie auch gar städtebauliche, so etwa der Masterplan für die Umgestaltung des ehemaligen Areals des Flughafens von Oslo.

The Finnish architect Pekka Helin created his first firm in 1979. In his design approach, he draws in a specifically Scandinavian manner both on functionalism as well as on the organic architecture of Aalvar Alto, Viljo Revell, and Heikki Sirèn, but also Arne Erve. The building material wood plays a prominent role in this extremely clear architecture. The firm creates residential buildings often right next to water, where the structures embeddedness in nature plays an important role in its sight lines but also office buildings, for example Nokias corporate headquarters and the Finnish Modular Office, the tallest wooden office building in Europe. The firms work also encompasses public buildings such as the Finnish embassy in Moscow and the concert hall and library in Espoo, and even town planning projects, such as the master plan for the redesigning of the grounds of the former Oslo airport. This book presents twenty - four of the firms projects organized by typological task, with the focus on life in nature, urban public buildings, residential structures, and various types of workspace.
