A propos de cet article

New York: Pantheon Books, 1955. First Edition. Two volumes complete. Bollingen Series XXXIX. Hardcovers, bound in dual-tone blue and grey cloth with gilt titles on the spines and blind-stamped accents on the front boards. This set features a distinguished academic provenance, bearing the personal illustrated "ex libris" bookplate of the notable poet, translator, and anthropologist Nathaniel Tarn pasted on the front pastedown of each volume. Volume 1: Text. xxiii, 465 pages with historical overviews and index. Volume 2: Plates. xviii with 614 black and white photographic plates taken by Eliot Elisofon and others. Condition: Very Good. The blue cloth spines show mild fading, with light softening and rubbing at the top and bottom spine ends. Volume 1 shows a distinct bumped corner at the top front corner of the board. The other board corners remain straight, though there is minor shelf wear visible along the bottom edges of both volumes. The binding remains firm, tight, and square on both volumes, with no cracked hinges or exposed webbing. Internal pages are entirely clean, unmarked, and free of marginalia, underlining, or library stamps. The page blocks show uniform age-tanning across the top, side, and bottom edges. The original paper slipcase is missing. A handsome, tight set with unique literary association. NT 65.…
