Item description from seller

The ACL was heavily invested in Waycross, Georgia where major fabrication took place of freight cars engines and most anything mechanical. It was also the place where trains were made trough an elaborate computerized system where inbound trains where sorted( classified) and put on the correct outbound track ( six major lines converged in Waycross now called the Rice Yards.) In the early 60's the local high school football team was of the best in the country and the fans packed the Memorial Stadium ( primarily erected for the MLB Milwaukee Braves who had Spring Training at the former Air Force base facilities there.) Because of the demand for local fans to see the team play home and away. ACL solved the away problem by running "Touchdown Specials" Trains destined for the team's opponents home; picking the fans up at Memorial Stadium and taking them to the towns where the team was playing that were served by ACL including Savannah, Thomasville, Jesup, Bainbridge, Valdosta, and even a much longer haul to Gainesville Georgia for the Class AA State Championship where the Waycross Bulldogs won 48-0. Book is in "As New" condition.

Description de la boutique

Rare Reads formerly operated a storefront in The Lakewood Antiques Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia but reverted to a strictly online operation when the Gallery closed. In 2006, Rare Reads published "The Heeey Baby Days of Beach Music" which received a bronze medal from The Independent Publishers Association. Long sold out, copies of the 13 pound tribute to the musicians who created the unique R&B genre are occasionally available on ABE. The book was a collaborative effort of Rare Reads and many others including the musicians that created the sound Southerns term "Beach Music." Rare Reads is considering future publications in addition to expanding its online enterprise. Rare Reads is operated by Greg Haynes and son Reid Haynes and has warehouses in Atlanta and Athens, Georgia.
