First edition thus. Quarto. Pictorial color wrappers bound into a cloth binder with titles stamped in gilt on the front cover and spine, 20 pp., double column, illustrated, map, acknowledgments, references. The history of San Xavier Mission near Tucson in Arizona Territory, by a splendid historian. A special edition prepared and bound in hardcover for presentation to the contributors for the restoration of the mission in 1996. The color wrappers were originally published in 1961 and reprinted in limited quantity with a new preface and foreword. Fontana has inscribed this copy on the sheet for Board of Directors. Fine copy. Content includes "Biography of a Desert Church: The Story of Mission San Xavier del Bac" found in "The Smoke Signal", Issue No. 3, Spring 1961 (reprinted 1971) , along with a forward by the author, a dedication page, and an introduction about the Mission San Xavier del Bac preservation program. We couldn't find any other copies with this binding in commerce.
