A propos de cet article

DESCRIPTION: 10 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches (27 x 18 cm). Limited edition of 150 copies. Printed letterpress privately by the Curwen Press on fine hand-made paper. Illustrated with 5 full wood-engraved plates by Charles Ricketts. Full crimson-burgundy morocco binding with elaborate gilt linear, circular and geometric designs on both covers, gilt circles and titling on spine. Top edge gilt. Book is protected with an archival clear Grafix Dura Lar dust wrapper. Housed in the original matching felt-lined clamshell box, quarter morocco with gilt circles and titling, matching cloth over covers._____CONDITION: Both book and clamshell box in fine condition. No flaws or issues._____DISCUSSION: Beyond the Threshold is a literary hoax. In reality, Jean Paul Raymond is Charles Ricketts, the legendary founder and proprietor of the Vale Press, one of the most important British private presses at the beginning of William Morris' modern private press movement. The book imagines an afterlife in which philosophical and aesthetic conversations take place between Gustave Flaubert, Friedrich Nietzsche and Oscar Wilde (who was a close, lifelong friend of Ricketts), an intellectual gamesmanship of sorts. More important than the literary work itself, this book is a notable example of The Arts of the Book, a stunning example of Art Deco design. It is a tour de force by Charles Ricketts, entirely written, illustrated and designed by him. As expected from the legendary Curwen Press, the typography and layout are of flawless quality._____NOTE: Domestic shipping cost with UPS Ground is $25. International shipping cost with USPS International Priority Mail to Canada and the United Kingdom is $55. Shipping cost to more distant locations may incur additional cost.…
