First edition, first impression (London, 1949). No markings or inscriptions. Internally fine. Page block edges dusted. Unclipped dust jacket. Poor: diagonal tear running across the front, extending through the inside front flap, chipping wear to the spine head, some additional closed tears, with sundry light marks. (The jacket is now perforce protected beneath a removable archival cover.) Orange cloth with black titling to the spine and the front. The boards remain sound and secure, with tolerably sharp corners, but show clear handling to the front and the back. In sum, a complete true first edition, but with a distinctly inferior (now protected) dust jacket. Illustrated by R. J. Macdonald. Frontis, 254pp.
