A propos de cet article

A good to very good copy of the 1st edition in the original decorative cloth binding with 16 hand coloured plates. The book is part of Reeve's Crown Natural History Series - developed to encourage students and amateur enthusiasts to take up nature study more deeply and systematically. The maroon cloth binding has a bee in gilt on the front board and gilt titles on the spine. The front board is bright and clean. There is some cloth loss to the top corner tip and a small bump to the bottom corner tip with some fraying. The back board is similarly bright with a small cloth bubble close to the spine. The bottom corner has a small bump and the top corner has a small cloth fray. Both boards have pale freckle spotting close to the spine. The spine is very sunned with pulling to the ends and an indentation adjoining the front spine joint. The original endpapers are present with an armorial bookplate and the name H N Rosling printed on the front pastedown. Contents with half title, frontispiece with guard, title, dedication, preface, contents and plate listing pp xvi; text with index pp 371; and 15 further colour plates with descriptions. 16 page publisher's catalogue at the rear. The contents are clean with well coloured plates. There is some spotting to the foredge occasionally visible at the page edge internally. The tissue guard to the frontispiece and the title page page have brown toning. There is some light foxing to the text, mainly in the top margin, and a mark in the text at pages 180-181. Plate III has some spotting in the top margin. Please enquire if you would like further images.…

Description de la boutique

We are a small online bookselling business specialising in rare and unusual books, generally published before 1900, with a focus on natural history, history, illustrated works and some literature. We are based in the beautiful Orkney Islands and have a specialist Orkney/Shetland section in our listings. We run a bookshop in Orkney - Birsay Books - where we have a wide range of stock from science fiction and fantasy to maritime and, of course, Orkney/Shetland and Scottish material. We take images of all of our books to supplement the online descriptions, and are always happy to provide more on request. When you order from us, we ensure that books are properly packed to protect their condition and we always use recorded or 'signed for' postal services for additional security. Because we are based on an island which depends on ferries and flights for shipping, we can not guarantee 'next day' delivery. We will simply get your purchase to you as quickly and safely as we can.…
