A propos de cet article

Publication: London, George Routledge & Sons, Ltd., 1924. Formatting: 8vo. Condition Report: Very Good. This copy is bound in its original dark green cloth, which remains tight and structurally sound. The front and rear boards, featuring a classic blind-stamped border, display only minimal shelf-wear and retain a clean appearance without significant scuffing. The spine features bright, unoxidised gilt lettering that remains remarkably sharp. The corners are slightly bumped, typical for a volume of this age, but are not heavily rubbed or bowed. Internally, the pages exhibit mild age-toning to the text block edges, most notably along the fore-edge, but remain clean and free from heavy foxing or moisture damage. The binding is secure throughout, with no separation at the hinges, presenting a highly well-preserved example. Catalogue Note: This centenary volume is a first edition of the collection, published in 1924 to mark one hundred years since Lord Byron's death. It features a handsome portrait frontispiece of Lord Byron, reproduced from the original painting by Thomas Phillips. While the text block edges display the standard age-toning typical of the era's paper stock, the original dark green cloth binding remains in highly collectible condition. Copies of this commemorative edition are relatively uncommon on the open market, particularly those that retain such bright, unoxidised gilt tooling and tight structural integrity. Published to commemorate the centenary of his death, Byron, The Poet offers a comprehensive and multifaceted examination of one of the Romantic era's most captivating and controversial figures. Edited by Walter A. Briscoe, this collection gathers addresses and essays from eminent literary and public minds of the 1920s, providing a retrospective appraisal of Lord Byron's enduring legacy, his literary genius, and his complex personal life. It serves as both a fitting tribute and a critical exploration, making it an invaluable resource for enthusiasts of Romantic literature and Byronic history.…
