CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The 126th Ohio Infantry (126th OVI) was organized at Camp Steubenville and mustered in for three years service on September 4, 1862, under the command of Colonel Benjamin Franklin Smith. The regiment was attached to Railroad Division, Western Virginia and later to the VIII Corps, Army of the Potomac. While on rail guard duty in Western Virginia near Martinsburg, the regiment was occupied in scouting and expeditions into the enemy's country for the suppression of guerrillas. During its service, the 126th Ohio had engagements at the Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, Monocracy, Winchester, Cedar Creek, Petersburg, and the Appomattox Campaign. This a very scare history and is seldom offered for sale; here In very good condition. Recognized as a FOX 300 Fighting Regiment. REFERENCES: DORN OH 426; Not in NEVINS ; Ryan 279: "The author in the preparation of this work has had free recourse to a number of diaries kept by members of his regiment throughout its term of service. The result is an entertaining and faithful record of its heroes, its marches, its battles, and its service at the front. This history gives the record of the regiment by years, and in chronological form narrates the incidents of service and the military life of the organization. It also contains (pp. 130-211) a complete roster of the field and staff. The appendix contains an original poem by the chaplain of the regiment, Rev. J. K. Andrews, and biographical sketches of its officers killed in battle." FOX 300 pg 334.…
