1st Printing. 237 pages. Published in 2017. The author's collection of interviews. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with the regular trade Softcover Edition. Published in a small and limited print run of 500 copies as a hardcover original by a University Press as part of the now-legendary "Literary Conversations" Series. The First Edition is now scarce. Presents, in the most collectible format possible, "Conversations With Vladimir Nabokov". A representative - and dazzling - selection of interviews conducted by various writers, journalists, and scholars with the author. Gives a rich, complex, and lively overview of both the life and mind of the greatest prose stylist in the English language of the 20th century. Presented in chronological order, the interviews cumulatively amount to an absorbing account of one of the greatest literary journeys of our time, which is the explicit intention of the publisher with each writer who is included in the Series. "The twenty-eight interviews and profiles in this collection were drawn from Nabokov's numerous print and broadcast appearances over a period of nineteen years. Beginning with the controversy surrounding the American publication of 'Lolita' in 1958, he offers trenchant, witty views on society, literature, education, the role of the author, and a range of other topics. He discusses the numerous literary and symbolic allusions in his work, his use of parody and satire, as well as analyses of his own literary influences. (Publisher's blurb). In a word: Indispensable. An absolute "must-have" title for Vladimir Nabokov collectors. This title is a great collection. This is one of very few copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. It is one of the most beautiful copies we have ever seen. Please note: Copies available online are, for the most part, P-O-D or the Softcover Edition, both of which have NO collectible value. A scarce copy thus. The greatest prose stylist in the English language of the 20th century. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER VLADIMIR NABOKOV TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 1496810953. …

This volume brings together candid, revealing interviews with one of the twentieth century's master prose writers. Vladimir Nabokov (1899-1977) was a Russian American scientist, poet, translator, and professor of literature. Critics throughout the world celebrated him for developing the luminous and enigmatic style which advanced the boundaries of modern literature more than any author since James Joyce. In a career that spanned over six decades, he produced dozens of iconic works, including Lolita, Pale Fire, Ada, and his classic autobiography, Speak, Memory.
The twenty-eight interviews and profiles in this collection were drawn from Nabokov's numerous print and broadcast appearances over a period of nineteen years. Beginning with the controversy surrounding the American publication of Lolita in 1958, he offers trenchant, witty views on society, literature, education, the role of the author, and a range of other topics. He discusses the numerous literary and symbolic allusions in his work, his use of parody and satire, as well as analyses of his own literary influences.
Nabokov also provided a detailed portrait of his life--from his aristocratic childhood in pre-revolutionary Russia, education at Cambridge, apprenticeship as an emigre writer in the capitals of Europe, to his decision in 1940 to immigrate to the United States, where he achieved renown and garnered an international readership. The interviews in this collection are essential for seeking a clearer understanding of the life and work of an author who was pivotal in shaping the landscape of contemporary fiction.
