A propos de cet article

First impression of the true first edition. ***Very good in dark burgundy cloth-covered boards with gilt titles and rule design to the spine and gilt facsimile author's signature to the front board. The boards are clean and unmarked. Head and tail of spine slightly creased. Corners sharp. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Page block edges slightly foxed. Internally also very good with no inscriptions. Pages clean, just slightly tanned. No creases or tears. ***In a very good illustrated dustwrapper, which has not been price-clipped, retaining the original publisher's printed price of 13/6 net. The dustwrapper is complete but with some rubbing at the edges. No chips, creases or tears. Back panel slightly marked and discoloured (being a white background). Dustwrapper otherwise bright with no fading, even to the spine. ***207 pages. 204mm x 140mm. ***'Bertram John Boland (12 Feb 1913 - 9 Nov 1976) was an English novelist and science fiction author. Boland was born in Birmingham, but later lived in East Sussex, on the edge of Ashdown Forest with his wife, Philippa. His most well known book was "The League of Gentlemen" (1958) which was released as a film. However, characters' names and the ending were changed. He wrote two sequels: "The Gentlemen Reform" (1961), "The Gentlemen at Large" (1962). They continued with the characterisations developed in the film. His first novel "White August" (1955) was a science fiction weather control disaster story. His second, "No Refuge" (1956) begins as a bank robbery crime story but them changes into science fiction, depicting a futuristic lost world. In this world children get much of their education from computers and adults walk around with a small device on their chest, listening to music through earpieces. As well as novels, he published short stories in science fiction magazines, including Galaxy Science Fiction and New Worlds.' (Wiki) ***'Interpol is known to be an organization which exists to help in tracking down international criminals, but Counterpol, John Boland's latest creation, is a fast moving, ingeniously-conceived organization for aiding international criminals who want to pull a job in a strange country. ***The mechanics are simple. The foreign "client" gets in touch with Counterpol who then finds an expert in the particular type of job which has been "commissioned". Counterpol set up the operation so that he only has to walk in and do the job, hand the goods back to Counterpol, who then deliver them to thier client.' ---Counterpol is the first book in a new series by John Boland featuring the activities of this criminal organization throughout the world.' (Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper) ***A first impression of the true first edition, in very good collectable condition. A nice copy of this first book in the series. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. …
