STAATS, H. Philip, editor. Californian Architecture in Santa Barbara. Preface by Charles H. Cheney. New York: Architectural Book Publishing Company, Inc., 1929. First edition. Quarto. Original publisher’s light green cloth, front cover lettered in black within a ruled panel. A very good copy. Binding square and sound; cloth unusually bright and clean with only light rubbing, a few faint surface marks, and modest wear at the corners. Spine lettering remains clear; several short splits with small losses to the cloth along the rear joint and light fraying at the head and foot of the spine. No dust jacket. Interior exceptionally well preserved, free of ownership inscriptions or bookplates; small Architectural Book Shop (F. D. Atherton, San Francisco) bookseller’s label on the rear pastedown. Profusely illustrated with photographic plates of residences, churches, civic buildings, gardens, and commercial structures, including work by George Washington Smith, Myron Hunt, Soule, Murphy & Hastings, Ross Montgomery, and other leading California architects. Preface by noted planner Charles H. Cheney.…
