The format is approximately 5 inches by 7.5 inches. Includes a list of 27 maps. All maps present. Maps are presented on two facing pages. Maps #20 and #21 are presented together on the same two-page spread. Maps are in color. The front board is detached by present. Ex-library with the usual library markings. Cover worn, torn, soiled and chilled. Some ink notations on blank pages. Some page discoloration noted. Most of spine missing. Shaken and weakly held together. This may be a candidate for disbinding and using for its prints/maps. Pierre Émile Levasseur, 3rd Baron Levasseur (8 December 1828 10 July 1911), was a French economist, historian, Professor of geography, history and statistics in the Collège de France, at the Conservatoire national des arts et métiers and at the École Libre des Sciences Politiques, known as one of the founders and promoters of the study of commercial geography. He strongly believed in the value of using statistics, graphics, (and maps to teach the social sciences at a deeper level, and is credited with inventing the cartogram as a teaching aid. He was an honorary president of the French geographical society. Charles Auguste Perigot (1828-1885) was a French geographer and historian. He attended the Ecole Normale Superieur in Paris in 1850 and at the Aggregation of Letters in 1857. He is the author of precise geographies and Classic atlases which rendered great services to the studies of his time. He is best known for his General Atlas of Ancient Physical and Political Geography, of the Middle Ages and Modern, Paris, F. Tandou, 1865.
