No.16 of a limited edition of 25 copies on Whatman paper. Photographic title and 41 collotype plates. Folio. Bound in contemporary quarter-calf over marbled boards, a very good copy. These photographers were part of a French contingent sent to China during the Boxer Rebellion. It includes for example an image of a special train used for the conveyance of eunuchs to the Summer Palace. Of particular interest are also the arial photographs of Peking, taken from a surveillance balloon, the first to fly over the Chinese capital.
